Obtaining permits for felling trees

  • Licenses can be obtained in case of danger, in case of household necessity, in case of financial need, in case of court order or for development works.
  • It is mandatory to obtain permits for cutting jackfruit, ratadeel and female palm trees located on government or private land.

The following documents are required.

  • Request letter to the Divisional Secretary
  • Completed form (certified by the Grama Niladhari)
  • Documents that can prove ownership of the land (certified by the Grama Niladhari)
  • In case of undivided land, letters expressing the consent of the partners (the consent must be expressed in front of the Grama Niladhari)
  • If the trees are to be removed for development works, written evidence of that
  • If it is a court order, a copy of that written order
  • Land title deeds
  • Indicate the reason for cutting the tree correctly and clearly in your application.
  • Submit your request in writing to the Divisional Secretariat.
  1. After submitting the above documents, the application form will be submitted to the Administrative Grama Niladhari.
  2. After receiving the recommendation of the Administrative Grama Niladhari, the permit will be issued after the approval of the Divisional Secretary.
  3. The permit is valid for 14 days.

No fee will be charged from you for this and no stamp is required.
